Basic 850: An Online Wordbook

  Sad
is a word for the quality of being unhappy: the opposite of "happy." It is one of the 50 words for opposite qualities. When something makes you sad, it may be said that you are sad.

When something makes you sad, in addition, you may say that it is a sad thing. If a picture gives you a sad feeling, for example, you may say it is a sad picture. (The Basic Words.)

If you do something with a sad feeling, it may be said that you do it sadly.

If an event makes you sad and you give a talk about the event, you may put, somewhere in the statement, the word "sadly." Though this writing about the word "sad" is not very long, I have nothing more to say. Sadly, I have to put an end to it here.
